Choosing the Right Tent for Your Event!

With so many tents available for rental, how do you choose which one is right for your event? With our many years of experience dealing with tents for all types of events and functions, we’ll walk you through what you need to know in order to decide what size, and style is best for you.

1) How big is your outdoor venue?

This is one of the few times size DOES matter ;)! Venue size is one of the most important factors when choosing a tent for your event. For example; you may have a 40’x60’ flat area available for tenting,  but may not realize that you need space on every side for stakes/weights to secure the tent. A general rule is to leave 10’ on every side for larger tents, and 2’-4’ for smaller tents.

2) What is the ground like? Grass? Gravel? Asphalt? Cement?

Most tents are staked into the ground, and this method is the most effective for securing the tent. Surfaces such as Asphalt or Cement can be tented using cement weights, water barrels or even staking directly in to the Asphalt. Knowing the condition of the ground will help your sales representative select the best and most secure method to tie down your tent.

3) Is there anything under the ground that will affect staking?

If there are any; gas lines, power lines, water lines, or septic tanks under the ground, it will affect your ability to put a tent up in that location. Knowing the locations of all these lines, mentioning them to your sales representative, and marking them before the setup, will speed up tent instillation and create a more efficient delivery.

4) Your vision!

Do you want the high swooping peaks of a Pole Style Tent, or the picturesque views through a beautiful Clear Top Tent? Your vision for your event plays a huge part in your tenting choice. Let your sales representative know what you have in mind so they can make your vision become a reality!

5) Your Guest List

The amount of people you have attending your event is another important factor when deciding what size/style of tent you choose. As a rule of thumb, a seated guest takes up 10 square feet of space, and a standing guest takes up 6 square feet of space. We also factor in things like: the head table, cake table, buffet tables, bars, and DJ areas to name just a few. If you’re having a larger event, and are having trouble coming up with your own floor plan, you may qualify for a complimentary CAD drawing.

6) Kitchen

Does your venue have a kitchen? If not, you may add one to your tent package. These are usually smaller tents specifically designed to be kitchens,  are attached to the main tent, and are used to cook under. We also can provide the right cooking equipment to make sure you have an efficiently running kitchen.

Throwing an event can be a headache, but choosing a tent doesn’t have to be! Just follow our 6 simple steps and picking your tent will be as easy as 1, 2, 3!

4 Toronto Traditions to check off your Christmas Bucket List.

Traditions are such a unique and important part of our lives. I, like many others remember the Christmas of my childhood very clearly. Putting the cookies out for Santa, skating at our local arena, and of course attending the Toronto Santa Claus Parade. Toronto is home to many tradition worthy activities. Here is a list of our top 4 things to do in Toronto this Christmas season.

The Nutcracker presented by The National Ballet of Canada: December 9th-30th

The Nutcracker has been a big part of Christmas in Toronto since its first show in 1995. The Nutcracker provides a unique look into Christmas in Russia and the imagination of children. It draws parallel’s between real Christmas traditions and the Christmas fantasies children create. With the Snow Queen and sugar fairies dancing across the stage it is a great way to spend part of the holidays.

Skating at the Harbourfront Center :  Opens November 17th (tentative on weather)

Grab a pair of skates and head to the Natrel Rink at Harbourfront center. This family fun event will surely become a Christmas tradition. The rink provides spectacular views of the harbour and even features DJ skate nights. The best part about this awesome Christmas tradition, its FREE!

The Cavalcade of Lights : November 25th

This is a jam packed event! The Cavalcade starts with a skating party featuring a live DJ, concert, the official tree lighting, and finally a fireworks display. This event is FREE!

The Toronto Christmas Market:  November 16th – December 23rd

The Toronto Christmas market is a staple here in the city. In the heart of the Distillery District a massive Christmas tree is decorated with lights, ornaments, and Christmas flare. The market is filled with fun activities. You can snap a quick picture at the Heart of Christmas, the joy sign, or in front of the grand Christmas tree. You can even sing carols at the elves sing along. With many vendors and pop up activities the Toronto Christmas market is a great way to get into the holiday spirit.

We hope that you enjoyed out list! Hopefully you can make it out to some of these events this year and start a Christmas tradition of your own!

8 Best Wedding Ideas

No matter who you are or in which era you get married, a wedding is always a special event dedicated to two loving people. And when it comes to making the day special for those two people, there are lots of great wedding ideas out there for décor, food, clothes, style, and more. Classic, modern, and whimsical are three of the overall style choices that people often opt for, and here are eight best wedding ideas for those styles.

Classic Wedding Ideas

  1. The Tiered Cake

The multi-layer cake is one of the most recognizable symbols of a wedding, and you’ll be happy to know these cakes are just as in style as they ever were. For a more modern twist, consider decorating the cake with real flowers or having each tier a different flavour.

  1. Hanging Décor

You can have any type of traditional décor you want at a classic wedding, but why not make it a little more unique by hanging it? Options include hanging photos or pictures, bunting, floral arrangements, and hanging elements that form parts of the centerpieces.

Modern Wedding Inspirations

  1. Draped Fabric for a More Intimate wedding

Large weddings that take place in large open rooms can leave you feeling like you’re at a museum rather than celebrating a special and personal day, but you can use draped fabric to make the room feel smaller, warmer, and more welcoming.

  1. Projections and Image Mapping

Did you wish you could have had a destination wedding but also wanted your entire family and all your friends to be able to make it? With image mapping, you can have the best of both worlds, because projections can make you feel like you’re anywhere in the world, or give you any type of intricate décor you’re looking for.

  1. Break the Flower Mold

Long gone are the days when you had to walk down the aisle with roses and have generic centerpieces. The modern wedding is much more open to exotic flowers and eccentric arrangements, including long-stemmed calla lilies for the tables, orchids for the bouquet, finding different ways to display flowers, or even using fruit on the tables instead.

  1. Soft Lighting

Lanterns and uplighting are great ways to make a wedding more romantic, especially if you’re going with a modern loft-style wedding, a rustic barn wedding, or a classy outdoor wedding.

Whimsical Wedding Possibilities

  1. Opt for a Themed Wedding

Did you and your honey meet at a Comic-Con convention and share a passion for cosplay? Then why not incorporate that into your wedding! Many couples these days are opting for themed weddings, such as a Harry Potter, Disney, or fairy tale theme. Want a great idea for a fairy themed wedding? Use clear ghost chairs to give your wedding an ethereal look.

  1. Choose Your Designs Based on a Decade

There’s something nostalgic and classic about the 1920s and 30s, and you can incorporate elements from these eras into your wedding, including with Art Deco décor, a vintage dress and suit, and even a classic car for photo ops.

The best part about your big day is that you can customize it any way you like, and whether you want a classic, modern, or whimsical style, these eight best wedding ideas will give you some inspiration. Gervais Party & Tent Rentals has everything you need to throw the ideal wedding, from accessories to décor to furnishings and more. 12 Best Wedding Table Decoration Ideas

While it’s important for many couples to be fashionable, they also don’t want to be so trendy that the wedding will seem dated when they look back at photos. With that in mind, here are some of today’s best wedding table decoration ideas that are both classic and chic, and that will have family and friends talking about what a lovely wedding it was for years to come.

1. Embracing Colour

When picking flowers for the table, think about bold shades of orange, vivid fuchsias, or even a rainbow centerpiece. For an ultra-stunning look, try all-white tablecloths and place settings paired with colourful vases and vibrant flowers.

2. Going Pastel

When you want to embrace colour but are looking for a more muted effect, pastel flowers, table cloths, and place settings add an elegant splash of colour.

3. Incorporating Desert Elements

Succulents are becoming an extremely popular choice for table decorations, and you can either go full-on desert with cactus centerpieces, or you can combine succulents with other flowers.

4. A Taste of the Tropics

Just because you didn’t slip away for a destination wedding doesn’t mean you can’t have a tropical paradise wedding. Consider using tropical flowers, sea shells, ferns, Polynesian elements, and even tropical fruit like pineapples on the tables.

5. Planning Your Wedding to a Tea

Vintage tea tins on the table are an excellent way to customize your wedding and give your day a classic feel, but you can also incorporate teapots into the décor by using them as vases.

6. Hanging Elements

Hanging centerpieces, including fabric, flowers, and potted plants, are becoming extremely popular, and you could even hang terra cotta pots above the tables using macramé holders.

7. Going Garland

There are several ways you can include garland in your décor, such as garland table runners, hanging garland (or bunting) from the roof or tent, or garland and pillar candles on the tables.

8. Try a Table Runner

You can also use table runners for long tables to make guests feel more connected. And if you want to get creative, consider burlap runners for a rustic wedding, grass runners for a green or outdoor wedding, or monogrammed runners for the head table.

9. Getting Wild with Flowers

Wedding flowers are no longer limited to roses and other traditional blooms, and couples these days are choosing anything from wildflowers to lemons to decorate their matrimonial tables.

10. Aim High

There’s nothing new about tall centerpieces, but the ones that are popular today are so tall that they’re both stunning and they don’t block guests’ views. For a more rustic look, have tall centerpieces wrapped with ivy.

11. Vintage and Elegant

Vintage is always in when it comes to weddings, and here are a few ideas for your table: all-white centerpieces, antique wine glasses, and floral arrangements that include ferns, roses, and jasmine.

12. Rustic and Natural Centerpieces

Some of the best wedding table decoration ideas for a rustic, outdoor, green, or natural feel include incorporating berries, antlers, lots of greenery, lanterns, pinecones, and feathers into your centerpieces. And while you’re at it, you can even use birch logs in place of vases.

With these best wedding table decoration ideas, you’re guaranteed to have a classically stylish wedding that will be both beautiful and memorable. At Gervais Party & Tent Rentals, we have all the accessory and item rentals you need to put together an unforgettable wedding. You can start planning today at or by calling us at 416-288-1846.

Where to Rent Chairs for Parties

One of the most common questions that party planners face—whether you’re planning anything from a small dinner gathering to an enormous wedding—is where will everybody sit? And unless you’re planning a small and intimate party with just a few people, often the next question that gets asked is where to rent chairs for parties? The good news is that the answer to both of these questions is simple: your guests will sit on comfortable rental chairs from Gervais Party & Tent Rentals.

Types of Events that Require Chair Rentals

Any gathering or celebration means you’ll need to provide seating for guests, and if you’re hosting any sort of large gathering, you probably don’t have enough of your own chairs to provide seats for everybody. There are lots of celebrations and events that people rent chairs for, including personal and work events, such as:

  • Birthdays
  • Celebrations
  • Graduations
  • Baby showers
  • Weddings and anniversaries
  • Reunions
  • Parties and barbecues
  • Work meetings
  • Corporate events and conferences

Are Chair Rentals Really Necessary?

Part of throwing a party or planning an event is taking the comfort of guests into consideration, and seating is a large part of that. Seating is necessary during a wedding ceremony and dinner, at business and corporate meetings, at any event where a meal will be served, and generally at any event where people might want to sit (which is really any event, celebration, or party at all!)

The best thing about chair rentals is that you get to provide clean, comfortable, and modern seating options for your guests without having to increase your budget to buy them outright, and you’re not stuck with hundreds of chairs afterward that you have no use for.

Where to Rent Chairs for Parties

Gervais Party & Tent Rentals is a one-stop shop for all things party and event related, and that means chair rentals galore! But more than that, we also have tents, decorations, serving ware, flooring products, and so much more. 9 Hot Wedding Trends of 2017

A wedding is one of the most special days of a couple’s life together, so it’s no surprise that most couples are very particular about what they want. These days, most brides and grooms want a mix of traditional, modern, and unique elements, and while they do want something individual, they don’t want anything overly trendy. That being said, many couples want to incorporate some fashionable ideas, so here are the hot wedding trends of 2017 that you can mix and match to plan your perfect day.

1. Return to a Natural and Rustic Feel

If you can’t have an outdoor wedding under the trees or a rustic marriage in a barn, then bring in some natural elements with potted plants and non-flowering greenery, and create the rustic feel with stick arrangements, mason jars, hanging décor, and plenty of candles and lanterns.

2. Not Your Mom’s Invitations

Wedding invitations have always been a big deal, but today the name of the game is creativity, excitement, and experimentation. Here are a few ideas:

  • Handcrafted or artisan-made
  • Foil stamping
  • Custom illustrations
  • Multiple patterns
  • Textured paper
  • Bold envelopes

3. Definitely Not Gramma’s Gift

It has long been acceptable to request cash or ask for specific gifts through a registry, but couples today are thinking outside the gift box. These days, you can have a honeymoon registry, request experiences as gifts, have a gift-free charity registry, or request specific non-traditional gifts.

4. Getting Creative with Food

These days, couples want their meals and snacks served with more flair, so creative presentations and deconstructed versions of classic fare are becoming extremely popular. For that matter, local food traditions are increasingly being incorporated into wedding meals, such as a Montreal wedding that serves poutine.

5. A New Twist on a Classic Cake

One of the hot wedding trends of 2017 is the move back to the classic, high, tiered cake, but with modern accents. For instance, having a cake table with multiple flavours, nearly nude cakes that have minimal icing, and edible flowers as decorations.

6. Food and Drink Pairings

Another food-themed trend for 2017 is pairing food, and especially hors d’oeuvres and appetizers, with special drinks (think tiny tacos paired with mini margaritas). Many couples are even opting to have a signature drink for their special day.

7. Wedding Entertainment

Gone are the days when a wedding band or DJ is expected to entertain guests all night, and it’s popular today to have live entertainment—such as performers or dancers—or make-your-own entertainment offerings like outdoor games.

8. Décor of the Future

Image mapping uses projectors to bathe walls with pictures, images, and scenery. Imagine, for instance, an indoor winter wedding that uses image mapping to make it look like a tropical destination wedding.

9. More Exotic Floral Choices

Although there are certain flowers that are still included in almost every wedding arrangement, couples are looking for more striking blooms, including dahlias, sugarbushes, buttercups, and especially peonies.

The ideas you can use to put together a unique, interesting, and completely personalized wedding are endless, but some things work better than others, and those tend to become the popular trends. When it comes to hot wedding trends of 2017, the theme seems to be a return to the traditional, but with obligatory modern touches.

In terms of colours, décor, food, and themes, you can’t go wrong with traditional, vintage, rustic, or natural these days, and there are plenty of ways that you can personalize these elements to customize your special day.

Whether a year away or in a rush to rent, Gervais Party & Tent Rentals has all you need for planning your dream wedding!  Get started at or call us at 416-288-1846 now!

7 Best Corporate Event Ideas

Your employees and your team work hard for you all year round, and you want to do something special to say thank you. So you plan a traditional corporate event that you’re excited about, but everybody else seems, well, underwhelmed. Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing: corporate events are supposed to be fun, engaging, and out-of-the-office events that help coworkers bond and get to know each other, so the same old thing isn’t going to be exciting or rewarding. Instead, why not try one of these seven best corporate event ideas that’ll have your employees counting down the days until the next one?

1. Take It into the Kitchen

Take over a restaurant or professional kitchen, provide all the ingredients necessary, divide the employees into teams, and have yourselves a good ole fashioned cook off. The best part is that when all the cooking is finished, you can sit down together and have a delicious meal.

2. Get Philanthropic

Volunteering is a great way to bring your employees together, and they’re not the only ones who will benefit from this type of event. You can spend the day at a local food bank, soup kitchen, animal shelter, homeless shelter, library (to read to kids), or anywhere else that’s in need of volunteer hands.

3. Solve Puzzles and Mysteries

There are so many different ways you can incorporate fun and mystery into your corporate events, and these are great bonding opportunities. A few ideas are:

  • Escape rooms
  • Mystery dinners
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Board game tournaments
  • Murder mystery parties

4. Get Wild

Adventure excursions aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, but if you have a group of employees who love excitement, then these types of corporate events are ideal. You could go white water rafting, play laser tag, go on a canoeing or kayaking adventure, take a spin at a go kart track, bounce off some energy at a trampoline park, or even go camping.

5. Play Ball!

There are two routes you can go here: you can either get active with your team and play sports together, or you can take them out to watch a professional sports game. Good games to play together include baseball, volleyball, or even something like capture the flag. There are also some companies out there that have giant versions of popular games. So, you can play a live, interactive, and human-sized version of Pac Man, Angry Birds, or even foosball.

6. Indulge with a Winery Tour

If you live anywhere near wine country, then a winery tour is a great way to reward employees for a job well done. These tours show you the vineyards, the casks, the fermentation vessels, and much more, and you’ll come away with some fascinating stories.

7. Adult Camp

Plenty of people went to camp as kids and had such a great time that they wonder why it had to end. And that’s where the idea for adult camps came from. Imagine getting to play silly games during the day, spend time at the beach, and cap the day off roasting marshmallows around the campfire again.

These are some of the best corporate event ideas out there right now, and as long as you stick to the list (or get creative with your own ideas), you’ll never again put together another boring, cliched, or corny corporate event. Not only will your employees be grateful, but they’ll also have a blast, they’ll learn a lot, and they’ll come away from the event refreshed, revived, and feeling appreciated.

At Gervais Party & Tent Rentals we have everything you need to rent (from accessories to décor) for a memorable corporate event.  You can start planning at or call us at 416-288-1846 today!
